I do not know very much about Islam but I know that there are two different groups called the Sunni's and Shia's. I know that they have had a hatred for each other for a very long time. I would like to learn more about Islam. I would like to learn about the religions that are practiced there and the gods they believe in. Also more information about the Sunni's and Shia's.

I do not know much about Islam, but I know that they believe that Jesus is a prophet but not the Sun of God. I believe that Muhammad was their first prophet and he basically founded Islam. I know that their god is named Allah. I know there holiest site is in Mecca. I looked up how many Muslims there were and estimates are anywhere from 1.1 to 1.8 billion. I know there are two sects that are the biggest Sunni and Shia, but I do not know any others or which one is bigger or the differences between them.

All I really know about Islam before research is that the name for their god is Allah.
But what I have learned is :
Quoted from Wikipedia "
1) Shahadah (profession of faith)
2) Salah (ritual prayer five times each day)
3) Sawm (fasting during Ramadan)
4) Zakat (charity given to the needy)
5) Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca)."

Those are the 5 pillars of the Sunni part of the Islamic religion (aka, duties that are required to unite the Islamic community.)

Questions:
Is there an Islamic Heaven?

When was it created?

I don't really know, or remember, much of anything about Islam. I do know that Islam means to totally surrender yourself to God. It is the second largest religion after Christianity.

Something that I would like to know about it is how, exactly, it was started? Also, who was the "buddha" of this religion or who came up with it and started it? Are there separate branches of this religion, and if so, are some of them more extreme than others?

I really don't know much about Islam. What is it and how it was started or came about? Who was the person who started it? What were the main rules or what did they believe in?

I know that Islam is a monotheisitic religion that has similar beliefs to Judaism and Christianty (but they believe Jesus was an important prophet and they trace their lineage through Ishmael, instead of Isaac). They believe that Mohammad was the final and most important prophet. Women keep covered, usign head scarves and burquas. Their place of worship is called a mosque. Their "bible" is the Koran. Their name for God or Yaweh is "Allah." There are two groups of Muslims: Teh Sunnis and The Shites. You are supposed to make a pilgramege to Mecca in your lifetime. It was a popular religion during the Ottoman Turk Empire. Ramadan is when they fast.

Questions:
Why do Muslims keep so covered?
What is their worship service like?
How did it spread?
Did religious leaders often become political leaders?

Islam is based on the teachings of Muhammad. Islam means submission, and this is interpreted as surrendering oneself to God. There is also 5 main ideas/Pillars of Islam.

Questions:
1.Where is Islam currently practiced?
2.What are the 5 main ideas/Pillars of Islam?
3.Who is the main god, and why?
4.Why is believing in Angels so important?
5.How long did it take for Islam to spread to where it is almost 100% today?
6. Why is the Quran the holy text?

I know that Islam means submission and they believe in completely giving themselves up to god. It includes many religious aspects. They study the Islamic law (sharia) and the Five Pillars of Islam. The two major denominations are the Sunni and the Shi'a. Their diet is restricted like Jews. The food they are allowed to eat is called Halal food. Halal means permissible. I also found a picture that shows percent of the population that is muslim all over the world. Here is the link:

I do not know much at all about islam. I know that it is one of the largest religions in the world (2nd). They worship Allah and the Quran is the religious text. They believe that the most holy place is Mecca. The second most holy city for the muslims is Medina.

I would like to know a little bit more about the Shia's and the Sunni's and the conflict that has been going on.

I would also like to know a little bit more about the gender roles and what the women are restricted from doing.

I do not know much about Islam, but I know there was a Golden Age from around 750-1250 where philosophy and culture evolved.

1. What is the significance of angels?

2. What is family life like?

3. How devoted to religion is the average common family? In comparison to Christians?

Islam had 2 different groups: the Shia and Sunni. The prophet the Muslims admired most was Muhammed. Their sacred book is the Koran. The city Mecca was important to them, because Muhammed had preached there. They follow the Five Pillars One is the Hajj where muslims have to pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their life and touch the black stone after walking 7 times around the building that has the sacred Black Stone. The Shahadah is something muslims say about Muhammed being the messanger of god. They must pray several times a day facing Mecca. They fast for a month eating only after the sun goes down.
Is the Koran like the Bible and Torah?

They follow the teachings of Muhammad. They are Muslims. There are Mosques where people pray and worship.
Questions:
1. Are there any other important historical religious figures other than Muhammad?
2. Is there a traditional dress of the people?
3. Is it popular and practiced only in one place or in many places?

To sound like a broken record, I don't know all that much about Islam. I know that one of their holy books is the Kuran, they worship Allah, and they believe that Muhammad is God's latest prophet, they believe that Christianity kind of got it right but Muhammad has the updated version of the word of God. I would like to find out why they pray so often, why you must take your shoes off in a mosque, what are Islam's main holy sites, and why are those holy site considered so holy. Also, why do they make a pilgrimage some time in their life?
