I thought it was interesting that the Pope still excommunicated Martin Luther even though it was clear he didnt care. Martin Luther burned the document publicy which was kind of embarrassing for the Pope so I was wondering why he did it. They also talked about the possibility of Martin Luther being arrested and killed. I was wondering if the police were connected to the Pope or something. I didnt really understand that part.

Martin Luther became a monk. I was wondering what exactly being a monk involves? How do people become monks? I was interested in the 95 propositions of Luther and I found them at this link: 95 theses I found it surprising that Luther was so aggressively attacking the Pope. At this link Martin Luther I found that once in circulation the "95 Theses" gained much attention, so much attention that Luther tried to withdraw the pamphlet but he was too late.

1. I don't really understand why Luther was excommunicated.

2. When Luther helped the 12 Nuns escape, where were the Nuns from, and why did they want to escape?

I was wondering abotu Luther's marriage. Wikipedia gives good information about Luther's marriage to Katrina. He was 42, and she was 26 when they got married.

I wonder why Luther's friends encouraged him not to go to the Diet at Worms in 1521.

I am curious as to what his family life was like and how many children did he have. It said that his dinner table was the center of lively conversation. I did a search wondering about his personal life. From the wikipedia site, I found out that they had six children and that they married when Katharina was 26 and Martin Luther was 42.

Why did he never believe he was holy?

Why did Frederick do so much for Martin Luther? Was he just doing it to be nice?

Why did he make almost no changes on baptism?

Did Martin Luther have a successor/ person who followed him extremely closely?

Below is a link that explains Martin Luther even more. I found it helpful because it helped me understand his struggle to find peace with god more:

1. Since Luther was a Monk how was he able to get married? When did the rules of the Catholic Church change for Monks and Nuns to not marry?

2. I don't understand why Luther was excommunicated.

What was Martin Luther's wife's (
Katharine von Bora ) life like? She not only had to watch over their children, but also the students that would stay in the Luther's house. The family also grew a lot of their food in their own garden.

What was Charles V's life like, too. The reading said he was not German. Where was he from? Also, here is a picture of him.

I was also curious about Tetzel and other "penance dealers". The reading said it was a common practice. Who put the monks up to this if monks usually try to live a "humble life"?

What was the reason that Luther wanted to be a Monk, instead of a lawyer. In the reading it said that his father was furious, but why did he not stop him or not let him become a monk. I also found it interesting how at the start of his life he had it all planned out, that he wanted to be a monk when he grew up and not a lawyer, but later in his life things did not plan out as steady as when he was younger. Why did Luther help the twelve nuns escape from the convent in the nearby town?

The reading talked about protestantism, but i was wondering about the other christian denominations and what they mean. Im a methodist... but I don't exactly know what it is. I decided to look at the 4 examples of bigger denominations listen on Wikipedia: Catholicism, Lutheranism, Anglicism, and Baptism. Catholicism is the practice of the roman catholic church. Lutheranism Is actually the study of the ways of Martin Luther (one of the main topics of the reading). Anglicism is rooted in the beliefs and practices of Christian churches which either have historical connections with the Church of England or maintain a liturgy compatible with it. Baptism is a term describing individuals belonging to a Baptist church or a Baptist denomination. The name is derived from a conviction that followers of Jesus Christ are commanded to be baptized (most commonly by being immersed in water) as a public display of their faith, and thus most adherents reject infant baptism.

I was looking to find a little bit more about how Martin Luther used self flagellationas a way to cleanse his sins. I looked for some images of his self flagellation. I know this is similar to what Kara posted a while ago but I thought it was really intriguing. I was also interested in learning about the life of a Monk. The PBS site really helped me learn about what a monk was with a cool video and all. I also really liked the connections between Martin Luther and Martin Luther King. I learned they had much more in common than just their name.

I thought it was interesting how Martin Luther burned his letter that he got from the church that he was being excommunicated. I made a modern day connection to being excommunicated by the church back then to being "blacklisted" as a communist in the 1950s. We haven't looked at that this year, but I remember from last year how people who were "blacklisted" were having a hard time getting jobs, and were treated much differently by others. In the reading, it mentioned about how since ML was excommunicated, he could not "be given bread by a Christian." Again, this made me think of the blacklisting.

When I heard about the Elector of Saxony, I was not aware of who that was, so I looked him up. Also, did his excommunication from the Church have any affect of his relationship with his wife? And if Martin Luther didn't care if he was excommunicated from the Church, was it just a procedure for the Pope to excommunicate him and severe all ties with Martin Luther and Christianity.

I wondered about the Diet of Worms. I found this link from wikipedia.

I thought it was interesting how Martin Luther saved 12 nuns, married another, and still got excommunicated from the church. I wonder what his wife though about this.
