Why was the bridge called a mole?

We do the same thing with the bridges today- so if he could build such a big bridge, doesn't that mean we should be able to build bridges across bigger bodies of water, since our technology is 'more advanced'?

All of the people thought he was such a good ruled, right? Well, how come if the people thought he was good, his soldiers didn’t/if he soldiers thought he was so conceited and selfish, why do the people find him so great?
